I've always loved to write and tell stories and since University had given me a thorough background in research, I thought to put everything together and explore the field of Journalism. I heard about the Broadcast and Online Journalism program at BCIT through the grapevine, and after some research, I thought to give it a shot.
I was lucky enough to get in, but I still didn't know what to expect. It turns out there's so much to learn about this industry and we've barely scratched the surface. Writing for news is so different than the term papers I'm used to, and there's a lot more to announcing than just thinking you have a good radio voice! But the journey's been rewarding so far, and the people make every step worthwhile.
Journalism is about results. It's about affecting your community or your society in the most progressive way.

My name is Lauren, and I'm originally from Bombay, India. Most of my early years were spent in Dubai, UAE, leaving me with an unshakeable love of heat and the unwavering belief that camels are cute, despite what everyone says. 2001 saw me and my family make the move to Vancouver, Canada, and my very first memory of this city is that it was raining. It's nice to know some things don't change.
Fast forward through the next few years, I moved into Richmond, then Surrey, completed five great years of high school and made the decision to study post-secondary at the University of British Columbia. From there I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History (with a minor in English Literature), and although I enjoyed it immensely, I knew I needed something a little more applicable to the real world.
